Del, There aren’t many people in this world like him, and I was lucky enough to have him in my life. To me, Del was like a second father.
He had this way of always pushing me to do better, to reach higher, and to never settle for less than I was capable of. He never let me have it easy — and at the time, I sometimes thought he was being hard on me — but now I see that it was his way of bringing out the best in me. A huge part of who I am today is because of him, and for that I’ll always be grateful.
Del also had this gift of knowing exactly what to say when times were tough. If I was having a bad day or going through a rough patch, he’d somehow always find the words to pick me back up and remind me of who I am. He had this steady, reassuring presence — the kind of presence that stays with you even when the person is no longer physically here.
Although Del isn’t with us anymore, I know he’s still watching over me. On the days when I feel anxious, overwhelmed, or not quite myself, I find myself thinking What would Del say to me right now? And in those moments, I can almost hear his voice, giving me that same guidance, that same encouragement he always did.
I love Del, and I miss him dearly. But I carry him with me in everything I do. He’ll always be by my side, and I’ll continue to live my life in a way that I hope would make him proud.
